Description

In Holliday Park stands a remarkable piece of history. In 1898, the Saint Paul Building was constructed in New York City, its first skyscraper, which included three monumental sculptures carved out of Indiana limestone. In the 1950’s, the Western Electric Company wanted to erect a new modern building on the site but wanted to find a new home for these sculptures. The City of Indianapolis’ proposal to preserve these sculptures by housing them on a reproduction of the Saint Paul Building’s facade, in addition to various amenities and landscaping that would accompany the monument. These sculptures have remained in Holliday Park since their installation in the mid-twentieth century.
