Description

The Geist Reservoir was constructed in 1943  with the damming of Fall Creek. The reservoir stretches across multiple municipalities, including Indianapolis, Fishers, Lawrence, McCordsville, and Fortville. Its construction was planned as early as the 1910s, out of fears of potential water shortages in Indianapolis. The plan required the purchase of over 5,000 acres, including a small town named Germantown, which lies underneath the reservoir’s surface.
